Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Coach
Why did you start training and what's kept you so passionate about it?
Started training because I've always wanted to learn a grappling martial art. I've kept up with it mainly because I fell in love with jiu jitsu since day one. Every day I get to learn something new and meet people from all walks of life.
What is a piece of advice you'd give yourself when you first started?
Watch more instructionals and do more positional rounds.
What is your favorite move to do?
Triangle and rear naked choke
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Coach
Why did you start training and what's kept you so passionate about it?
After taking a major pay cut and feeling like I was losing at life, I wanted to be winning at something again. At 23 years old I decided to walk in to a Brazilian jiu jitsu gym that was advertising MMA. Prior years I was approached by grapplers in public that I should try training because of my build. I declined because when I saw pictures assuming the gi uniform had something to do with traditional martial arts. I continue training Jiu-jitsu because it gave me the feeling that I missed after doing High School football. Just like when stepping on the mats or the football field everything else in life blurs out and you're able to focus at the moment at hand.
What is a piece of advice you'd give yourself when you first started?
Knowledge will always exceed my physical attributes.
What is your favorite move to do?
Take downs from sitting guard
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Coach
Why did you start training and what's kept you so passionate about it?
I started training after a sexual assault to be able to defend myself. I stay training because it brought me to peace with myself and let me find a strength I didn't realize I had. My passion to try to empower women to be able to protect themselves is found in this sport.
What is a piece of advice you'd give yourself when you first started?
If your uncomfortable, your doing it right. Get comfortable being uncomfortable because that's where progress is made.
What is your favorite move to do?
Triangle :)
Boxing Coach
Coach Richard Derrick is from Dallas TX.
Has been boxing for over 15+ yrs
2013 Graduate from UNT
Former USA Boxing Member for 5+ yrs
2014 Ft Worth Golden Gloves Novice Champion Light heavyweight division
2nd place in 2014 Silver Gloves Championship light heavyweight division
Muay Thai Coach
Why did you start training and what's kept you so passionate about it?
The first fight I remember watching was Tyson vs Holyfield and fell in love with boxing fairly young, but it was watching Jose Aldo destroy everyone in WEC that really turned me onto kickboxing and muay thai. The constant evolving talent keeps me excited. Watching guys like Liam Harrison, Jonathan Haggerty, Rodtang, and Saenchai is like watching violent art in motion.
What is a piece of advice you'd give yourself when you first started?
One piece of advice I'd give students starting out, is not to overlook the basics. Everyone wants to learn the fancy spinning stuff on day one, but building that foundation is much more important.
What is your favorite move to do?
My favorite technique to use are leg kicks.
