Coach Richard Derrick, a Dallas native, has been boxing for over 20 years and coaching at Street Jitsu for nearly 10 years. A 2013 graduate of UNT, he was a USA Boxing Member for 5+ years, winning the 2014 Fort Worth Golden Gloves Novice Championship and placing 2nd in the Silver Gloves Championship. His most recent competition was with Team Dallas in the 2024 Team Combat League. As a coach, he is passionate about developing fighters, refining technique, and pushing students to reach their highest potential. 1. If you could have one dream boxing match, who would you fight?
My student loan, but seriously it would be Lennox Lewis.
2. How did you first get into boxing?
I was fighting all the time. Someone said, if you gonna fight, fight with some gloves on your hands and get paid for it.
3. What’s your coaching style in three words?
Defense, Defense, Defense (My fighters don’t get hit).
4. What’s one workout or drill you swear by?
Shadowboxing
5. What do you love most about Boxing?
You get what you put in. It’s an individual sport. It takes the excuses out. You have to think before you punch.
